Avoid Tolls and Highways Using Apple Maps

There is probably no one who likes paying Tolls to use a road, especially on a daily basis while going to work or coming back from work.

Luckily, the Maps App on iPhone can be setup to avoid Toll Roads, while providing turn-by-turn directions to your place of work, home or any other destination.

Similarly, if your limited driving license does not permit you to drive on Highway or if want to avoid Highways, the Apple Maps App on your iPhone can be setup to avoid Highways.

Avoid Tolls Using Maps App On iPhone

Follow the steps below to set Apple Maps to avoid Toll Roads.

1. Open Settings > scroll down and tap on Maps.

2. On the Maps screen, select Driving  option, loc

At any time, you can disable this option by moving the toggle to OFF position. When the option is disabled, Apple Maps will help you reach your destination using the quickest possible route.

How to Avoid Tolls on Apple Maps

Apple Maps has two ways to avoid tolls in its iPhone app.

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Go to Maps > Driving & Navigation.

  3. Under Avoid, choose Tolls.

    You also have the option to avoid highways.

  4. Alternatively, open Apple Maps and input your destination.

  5. Tap Directions, and swipe up from the bottom of the screen. Then tap Driving Options.

  6. Under Avoid, toggle Tolls to the On position.

    There's also a toggle for avoiding highways.

These options remain in effect for the next time you use the app, but Apple offers faster routes with tolls (if applicable), so you can make an informed decision.

On the Apple Maps desktop app, there’s no option to avoid tolls. It offers you multiple routes, though, and indicates whether there are tolls along the way. You can also send navigation routes from your Mac to your iPhone, and then adjust toll settings once you’re in the car.

Thanks! Hi Chuck, Just to set your expectations, this has been a long asked for feature that has never been implemented. Currently, Google Maps does not support different vehicles types or any commercial vehicle settings.
