So… Is It The Flats Causing Your Feet To Stink?

The short answer is that your feet sweat when they’re in contact with shoes. The longer answer involves the fact that sweaty feet smell, even when you’re wearing sandals, and there are some people who are more prone to this than others.

A lot of factors go into how smelly your feet will get in your flats, but the main one is how much moisture gets trapped in the shoes. If you wear socks, or if you sweat a lot, or if you have a condition like diabetes that increases your risk for foot issues, then you might get a buildup of moisture in your flats.

If you’ve been wearing your flats regularly and suddenly notice a funky smell, it’s probably not an indication of disease — it’s just the natural byproduct of wearing shoes that trap moisture. Washing them regularly should help get rid of the funk.

Flats aren’t the only type of shoe that can cause foot odor problems. Sandals and certain types of sneakers can also trap moisture and lead to smelly feet.

If you’re wearing flats, it’s possible that you’re not getting enough air circulating around your feet. This may be the result of shoes that are too tight or unventilated. Overly padded shoes can also cause moisture to build up, which is why it’s important to wear socks in shoes with padded soles.

Or Handy Sneaker Balls

For shoes that can’t accommodate larger fresheners, sneaker balls are a good alternative. The mini design made popular by Sof Sole can easily be thrown into slim sneakers and flats to release a clean scent for up to 2,000 hours of freshness.

Pile on the Baking Soda

Baking soda is also another easy home remedy. The pantry staple can be used to make the stinkiest footwear smell practically brand-new. Pour a healthy dose into shoes, let it sit overnight and shake it out in the morning. For an even stronger alternative, mix the baking soda with zinc oxide powder, which has additional deodorizing and antibacterial properties.

How to Fix Resin Print Sticking to FEP Not Build Plate

Make sure that all the 3D printer’s components are perfectly skewed and balanced. Set the best suitable settings for the printing princess according to the resin type and model, and you will be able to fix this problem. Below are some of the best suggestions that can help you out in this regard.

As previously mentioned, we want to try and prevent this happening in the future, and it can be done with the help of PTFE lubricant spray.

I’d recommend spray this outside since it is quite

I’d recommend spray this outside since it is quite smelly stuff. You don’t have to go overboard with how much you are spraying. Learning how to lubricate your FEP is fairly simple.

Just a few sprays to cover the FEP film, so it can dry and work as a lubricant to stop resin sticking there.

A good PTFE spray you can get to prevent resin prints sticking to the FEP film is the CRC Dry PTFE Lubricating Spray from Amazon.

Once it dries up, you can take a paper towel and give it a final light wipe to get any excess that might be left over.

Now let’s look into some other tips that work for fixing your resin prints sticking to the resin vat.

  • Use a good number of bottom layers, 4-8 should work pretty well for most situations
  • Make sure your bottom layer curing time is high enough to harden the resin to the build plate
  • Ensure that the build plate is level and is actually flat – some build plates have come bent from manufacturers

Matter Hackers created a great video showing you how to check that your build plate is actually flat through sanding.

  • Properly tighten the build plate and bed screws, so they aren’t wobbling or moving around
  • Take notice of the temperature of the room and the resin because cold resin can lead to printing issues – you can heat your resin beforehand using a heater of some kind (some even put it on their radiator)
  • Shake your resin or mix the resin within the resin vat with a plastic spatula gently
  • Make sure your FEP sheet has a good amount of tension and isn’t too loose or tight. Do this by adjusting the tightness of the screws around the resin vat.

Once you go through these troubleshooting solutions, you should have a resin 3D printer that creates prints that actually stick to the build plate.

In terms of priority you want to follow through with:

  • Leveling the bed
  • Increasing number of bottom layers, along with bottom curing times
  • Making sure the FEP sheet has the ideal tension and has some slack so that the cured resin can peel off the FEP sheet and onto the build plate.
  • Warming up your resin and printing in a warmer environment – space heaters can work well for this. Shaking up resin for around 20-30 seconds can help mix and even heat up the resin.

TrueEliteGeek on YouTube has a really detailed video on installing your FEP sheet properly and with the right amount of tension.

When you do use a small object like a bottle cap to create the slight angle in your FEP film, try to cover it with something soft like a cloth, so it doesn’t scratch the film.

Defining the Difference

Take a look at Dr. Friedman’s diagram again. See the area just below “Extinction, Negative Reinforcement, and Negative Punishment”? It is called “Differential reinforcement of alternative behaviors.” Guess what? That one corresponds exactly with both of the Scenarios #2 above. Dr. Friedman’s definition is, “Differential reinforcement is any procedure that combines extinction and reinforcement to change the frequency of a target behavior.”

Instead of being gobsmacked by the normal behavior not working anymore, the learners, dog and human, are given a big fat clue about what is going to work to get what they want. That clue is the positive reinforcement of an alternative behavior.

Extinction is part of all differential reinforcement training methods. Those methods are on a more humane rung of the hierarchy because the animal is given immediate opportunities for positive reinforcement. This can be done either by reinforcing successive approximations (shaping), or by separate practice of the desired behavior before it is evoked in the situation where the undesired behavior is likely.

So when someone says to you, “Neener neener neener, you use punishment when you withhold a treat,” say, “No, that’s extinction.” Then if they say, “Neener neener neener, you use extinction and that’s mean,” say “I use it in combination with differential positive reinforcement.” And make sure you do!

Be the mechanic who shows his client ahead of time what is going to work, instead of the one who sends him off with no clue.

* The car thing is a deliberately ridiculous scenario. Obviously, to cause a car’s keys and remote not to work would be horribly dangerous, and hardly anyone would consent to that even if it allowed one access to a new feature like voice commands.

How Do I Get Rid of the Smell in My Flats?

Unfortunately, no matter how much you love your flats, this will always be a tradeoff to keep in mind. Why? It’s simply because flats are open to the elements–and your feet are not.

When you wear your flats, this creates an environment in which bacteria can build up in the sweatier parts of your shoes. Over time, this sweat can give you a terrible foot odor…unless you take the time to clean out the smell every once in a while.

Getting rid of the smell in your flats is not easy, but it’s not impossible either. You can follow these tips to make your flats smell good again.

  1. Mix baking soda with water and pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Spray this solution on the inside of your flats to remove any odor.
  2. You may also need to deodorize your shoes to remove bad smells. Keep your shoes in an open area for 12 hours or more, then wipe them with a dry cloth.
  3. If you are finding that you are having difficulty removing the odor from your flats, try using tea tree oil to remove the odor instead. Tea tree oil is known for its antibacterial properties and could easily remove any odor from your flats.
  4. Tea tree oil can be used in different ways, depending on how strong you want the tea tree oil scent to be. You can dilute tea tree oil with water and put it in a spray bottle, or you can mix it with baking soda for a scrubbing powder if you don’t want too much scent at all.
  5. Some people think that putting newspaper into their flats can help absorb moisture and reduce odors over time. The newspaper will soak up moisture, but it will take time for this process to happen. It is best to leave the newspaper in overnight.

How to make a custom WooCommerce thank you page

To create a custom WooCommerce thank you page, you can use the free NextMove Lite plugin, which is available at .

The NextMove Thank You Page plugin overrides the standard thank you page and automatically makes that confirmation section more appealing. Not to mention, you’re able to edit most elements on the page, leading to a well-branded WooCommerce thank you page.

To get started, install and activate the plugin. Click here if you need guidance installing a plugin.

As soon as you activate the plugin, it will already add a new customized thank you page. In the rest of the post, we’ll show you how to further customize that page to meet your needs.

Open the editing tools

To edit the new thank you page with your own content, go to WooCommerce > Settings in your WordPress dashboard.

In the settings area, select the NextMove Lite: XLPlugins tab.

The main configuration page includes a list of the thank you pages you have active. It also provides information on where and how the thank you pages run on your website – it shows these details on the right side of the page.

You can even click the See Order Preview button to look at the thank you page design without running a test order every time you want to view it.

Click Add New to start a thank you page from scratch.

Or, you can also click on the already-created thank you page to edit the existing design.

Stylize the order confirmation area

NextMove brings you to its own visual page editor, with four highlighted steps:

  1. Select Components
  2. Edit Component
  3. Choose Layout
  4. Arrange Components

Each module in the Select Component area serves a purpose on the thank you page. You can remove some or add more, while also editing the detailed settings for each one.

Starting out, click the Order Confirmation component.

This shows a list of settings and fields for the order confirmation area. Feel free to scroll through these to edit them as you please.

For example, you might edit the thank you page icon or add a new header or background color.

You could also change the icon, such as showing a gift icon instead of the checkmark:

All components provide tools to change things like headings and colors. Make sure you go through them all.

As an example, you can get more personal with the intro heading by adding the person’s name and some welcoming text.

Choose a WooCommerce thank you page layout

Although you can still edit the many other components, the Choose Layout section always allows you to switch from a one-column layout to a two-column layout.

The plugin also has a section called Arrange Components, where you drag-and-drop the components within the layout.

As you can see, we’ve moved around some components and made the thank you page a two-column design.

Customize the order details section

Next up, click on the Order Details component. Adjust everything from the heading to the description, and the alignment to the layout.

Note: You can enable or disable any component by using the Enable switch.

Make edits to the customer details section

The Customer Details component involves information on the thank you page, like address and name.

When editing the component, consider personalizing the text and incorporating a description that better fits your brand.

You can also change the colors for the component to draw attention to it:

Add a location map

The next component, called Location Map, inserts a map into the thank you page to show that your company has received the shipping information and the product is on its way.

As with all components, think about changing around the text, fonts, and colors surrounding the map. You can also configure the style of map and go into the NextMove settings to link to the Google Maps API (typically required in order for this feature to work right).

Add extra content sections to improve your thank you page

The Content section offers a few other components like:

  • Single Text
  • HTML
  • Image Text
  • Video

As you may realize, these open up seemingly infinite possibilities for designing your WooCommerce thank you page.

For example, you could add an Image Text box to prompt people to come back to the store if they forgot something.

An excellent reason to use the Image Text box is for the button and image capabilities.

You can upload a photo for some flare on the page, while also linking back to the main Shop.

The settings include options for which page to link to, the colors, and the button text.

The premium components from NextMove

Although the free, standard settings from NextMove offer much to boost the style and content in your thank you page, the premium components take it to a new level.

If you’d like to add more advanced functionality to your thank you pages, consider upgrading to the premium version of NextMove, starting at $29 per year.

Premium components include:

  • Recently viewed
  • Dynamic coupons
  • Smart bribe
  • Related products
  • Social share
  • Specific products
  • Join us
  • Cross-sell
  • Upsells

Once you’ve configured everything, make sure you hit the Save button in the NextMove editor.

After that, go to the Preview (or process a test transaction) to view the new WooCommerce thank you page.

As you can see, we’ve incorporated new text, some color backgrounds, an image, a map, and a button to get people back to the store.

How To Get Rid Of Stink Bugs Naturally

Stink bugs have diverse natural enemies depending on what a target is: eggs, nymphs or adults. Among predators feeding on stink bugs, there are birds, rats, spiders and all sorts of insects which help to reduce stink bug populations. Some of their natural enemies are parasites living on or inside their victim while others are predators eating their preys. These are adult green lacewings, jumping spiders, ground beetles, wasps, just to name a few.

Scientists from the Oregon State University have examined the behaviour of the Samurai wasp, also known under the scientific name Trissolcus japonicus, and have found them very helpful. When populations of stink bugs have exploded in Oregon and house owners started complaining about a large number of these insects in the vicinity of their dwellings, the scientists have opted for a biological solution and eventually succeeded. Studies conducted in the laboratory showed that female wasp lays eggs in the eggs of stink bugs which eventually die.

Russell F. Mizell III from the University of Florida refers to scientific studies proving the effectiveness of a so-called trap cropping. Although much depends on the combination of pests and plants in every particular region of the country, the strategy as a whole really works. The idea of trap cropping is to place plants attractive to stink bugs near the crops you what to protect from the infestation. By doing so the farmers “intercept” the pests stopping them at the perimeter of the field. It is also preferable to mix species of plants so that insects will have enough food. As for stink bugs, the recommended plants include crimson clover, millet, buckwheat, sunflower and some other.
